Learning
There are some things which cannot be learned quickly, and time, which is all we have, must be paid heavily for their acquiring. They are the very simplest things and because it takes a man's life to know them the little new that each man gets from life is very costly and the only heritage he has to leave.

英文版
When Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara was practicing the profound Prajna Paramita, he illuminated the Five Skandhas and saw that they are all empty, and he crossed beyond all suffering and difficulty.
Shariputra, form does not differ from emptiness; emptiness does not differ from form. Form itself is emptiness; emptiness itself is form. So too are feeling, cognition, formation, and consciousness.
Shariputra, all Dharmas are empty of characteristics. They are not produced, not destroyed, not defiled, not pure; and they neither increase nor diminish. Therefore, in emptiness there is no form, feeling, cognition, formation, or consciousness; no eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, or mind; no sights, sounds, smells, tastes, objects of touch, or Dharmas; no field of the eyes up to and including no field of mind consciousness; and no ignorance or ending of ignorance, up to and including no old age and death or ending of old age and death. There is no suffering, no accumulating, no extinction, and no Way, and no understanding and no attaining.
Because nothing is attained, the Bodhisattva through reliance on Prajna Paramita is unimpeded in his mind. Because there is no impediment, he is not afraid, and he leaves distorted dream-thinking far behind. Ultimately Nirvana! All Buddhas of the three periods of time attain Anuttara-samyak-sambodhi through reliance on Prajna Paramita. Therefore know that Prajna Paramita is a Great Spiritual Mantra, a Great Bright Mantra, a Supreme Mantra, an Unequalled Mantra. It can remove all suffering; it is genuine and not false. That is why the Mantra of Prajna Paramita was spoken. Recite it like this:
Gate Gate Paragate Parasamgate
Bodhi Svaha!

My name is Chao-Ching Chen from Taipei County. I was graduated from Aletheia University, majoring in foreign language and literature. After completing my bachelor degree, I went to America to pursue my master degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Language). I received this degree in May, 2008. I gained a lot of knowledge both in my field and in how to live and get along with different races. Therefore, I can employ what I have learned in my job.
As for my working experiences, I have learned a lot from my past working experiences such as waitress, secretary, foreign sales, and English teacher. My special areas of expertise are English and import and export trade. I have worked as an elementary and intermediate English teacher at Giraffe English Cram School in Taipei County from 1999-2001 and also gained the certificate of English teacher at Giraffe English Schools. After that, I taught English in three private cram schools. I garnered many teaching ideas by means of teaching different levels and ages of students. My teaching specialty is phonics and KK phonetic symbols. I also like to combine isolated skills into integrated instruction so that the four basic English skills become more integrated and complete.
I am one that has the liking to pursue any new knowledge and information. Moreover, trying to learn and improving myself is my hope and life perspective. My professional goal is to teach English. Through teaching, I not only learn how to teach different ages and work with students but also deepen my professional skills.
Besides, I have had trade experiences for about 2 and half years. I really like to utilize what I know in English into working environment, especially trade. Hopefully, I could have the chance of interview to work in your honored company. Thanks for your time and attention to my application. Thanks for the opportunity to be considered!
Yours truly,
Chao-Ching Nelly Chen

In the past, students began to learn English in the first year of junior high school. Starting in 2001, English teaching programs were initiated from the fifth grade of elementary school. Additionally, the MOE (Ministry of Education) planned to start English instruction from 3rd grade in 2005. Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, instituted the teaching of English courses beginning in the first grade of elementary school. Students take the English class twice a week and each time is for 45 minutes. What’s more, some students also take the private English classes after school.
English teacher positions in the elementary school now are very competitive in Taiwan. The exam for becoming official teachers is not easy to pass or after passing the test the chance to work in elementary school is very limited. Take my friend, Jenny for example, she passed the test to take English teachers required courses at college, however, after she finished the whole classes. She can’t find any school to teach. She has no option but to work in cram school. Therefore, many official teachers can't find the vacancy to teach at the public or private elementary school.
I remembered I started to learn English since I were in the 7th grade. At that time, English teaching focused more on Grammar Translation approach. Nowadays, as the Communicative Language Teaching has come out. More and more textbooks are complied based on this approach. Furthermore, the textbooks are not standardized from elementary to junior high school. The educational policy of this is to make the learning more diverse but this makes students more stressed since they have to prepare as many different versions of textbooks to pass the entrance exam.
Currently, students’ English learning has more options and the educators set up more beneficial policy to make the English learning environment better and better in Taiwan. In Elementary schools, students not only learn the foreign language - English but also they can learn more dialects, such as Hakka and aboriginal languages. As a consequence, people are multilingual and learn to appreciate different cultures and languages in the society of Taiwan.
I think if I were a parent, I would agree with the current policy of multilingual education. But on the other hand, I will hope learning language in the EFL setting could have more authentic materials and students can learn the language subconsciously in their daily life. There could have an English learning Channel for students to watch. Connecting school learning with life, English or other language learning will be more motivational and intriguing for students.

How do you do?
When I had started to learn English in junior high school, the first lesson of the
English textbook is about greeting such as" how are you?", "hello" and "hi" these
formulas. And “how are you” is the most common sentence that shows in the formal textbook.
But when I have had the chance to go abroad to study, what I heard more often is
“how are you doing?” instead of how are you?
So I think the textbook in Taiwan should get with the times of English. That won’t
make students confuse what they learn is different from the authentic language.
Also, “how do you do” is another one that we learned from beginning textbook.
But it seems that we don‘t use this saying a lot in our daily life .
Even we are in the USA, when we meet someone for the first time. We just say hi or
hello, this casual way representing the casual life tempo of American society.
Another greeting saying in the textbook is “how do you do?”
Another situation that we will use “how do you do” is when people do the business.
The business English is very formal and official. So people will say “how do you do”
to show how the cooperative relationship gets along well initially and take it seriously.
Hi. The saying of “Hi” is more colloquial than “hello”.
When we go to the library and would like to check out some books.
The librarian will say “hi” to you to show the friendly start.
Another situation will happen in the daily life here is when we talk with Japanese
students here. We will use “hi” more often than “hello” just to greet them. Probably
it’s because of the using “hi” in Japanese is very common.
Hello
Usually, we use “hello” in these two situations.
First, when we enter a house and would like to know is anybody here?
We would say “Hello, is anybody here? Or hello, is anybody at home?
That’ a start to see whether there are someone here or not.
Secondly, when we answer the phone, we will say hello at first to answer the caller.
That’s the beginning of the conversation. Then, we will develop the topics.
